Fertility, Thyroid & Naturopathy FAQ's, Seed & Flourish

FAQs: Fertility & Preconception

Can a Naturopath help with sperm quality?

Male factor fertility is very much within the scope of naturopathic care. Sperm health is influenced by nutrition, antioxidant status, heat, stress, environmental factors and lifestyle. These are all areas we can assess and support. Starting early can make a real difference.

Can a Naturopath help with egg quality?

Egg quality can be influenced by factors like oxidative stress, mitochondrial function, blood flow, and nutrient availability, all of which we consider during naturopathic care. While we can't change the number of eggs you have, supporting the environment they develop in is a meaningful and evidence-informed focus of preconception care.

Can a Naturopath support me if I've had a miscarriage?

Yes. Recurrent pregnancy loss is one of the most emotionally and physically complex areas I see. After a miscarriage, there are often nutritional, immune, hormonal, and emotional threads worth exploring before trying again. Naturopathic support can help you feel physically prepared and emotionally ready when the time feels right.

Can Naturopathy help with thyroid issues that are affecting my fertility?

Thyroid function plays a significant role in reproductive health, and it's an area I consider as part of a thorough fertility consultation. Naturopathic support can work alongside your medical management to support thyroid health through nutrition, lifestyle, and targeted supplementation.

Do I need a consult before I can order a test?

Yes. A consultation first ensures we order the right tests for your specific situation, but also that you get an accurate result from your investment. Test accuracy can be affected by a number of factors including preparation, medications, cycle timing, and recent food and nutrient intake. Getting these details right from the start means your results give us a clear and reliable picture to work from.

Do I have to do any fertility testing if I see you?

No. Testing is never mandatory. It's a tool we may use to get a clearer picture, but a full consultation and care plan can absolutely be developed without it. We'll discuss what makes sense for your situation and you always have the final say.

Can my partner come to my fertility consultation?

Yes, and I encourage it. Fertility is rarely a solo journey, and having your partner present means we can look at both sides of the picture together. Couples appointments are available, and there are specific appointment types designed for you both.

Can I work with a Naturopath as well as my IVF specialist?

Where relevant, I work collaboratively alongside your GP, midwife, acupuncturist, or fertility specialist. My role is to complement your medical care, not replace it. If you are working with an IVF clinic or fertility specialist, I am experienced in providing coordinated naturopathic support that integrates with that process.

Do I need to prepare for my Fertility appointment?

Once your booking is confirmed, you will receive a detailed health intake form to complete prior to your consultation. This covers your health and reproductive history, current medications and supplements, general diet, and your goals for the consultation. If you have previous test results or pathology reports relevant to your health, you are welcome to email these through ahead of time for Nicole to review. Taking the time to complete this thoroughly means we can hit the ground running and make the most of your time together.

How long should you do preconception care for?

Ideally, three to six months before you start trying. This aligns with the maturation cycle of both eggs and sperm, and gives us time to address nutritional foundations, explore hormonal factors, and optimise your lifestyle and environmental factors.  The earlier you start, the more we can do.

Frequently Asked Questions - Thyroid Health

Can a Naturopath help with thyroid?

Yes. As a thyroid naturopath with 22 years of clinical experience, I work with people managing hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, Hashimoto's, and Graves' disease. Naturopathic care looks beyond the thyroid gland itself to address the many interconnected factors that influence how well your thyroid functions. This can include gut health, nutrition, stress, sleep, immune function, and environmental exposures. Whether you are newly diagnosed or have been managing a thyroid condition for years, naturopathic support can be a valuable part of your overall care.

Can I improve my thyroid function naturally?

Natural thyroid support through targeted nutrition, herbal medicine, dietary changes, and lifestyle modifications can play a meaningful role in how you feel. Thyroid function is influenced by nutrient levels, gut health, chronic stress, sleep quality, and environmental exposures, and by identifying what is contributing to your symptoms we can support your body's thyroid function naturally, even if you are on thyroid medication.

Can you offer thyroid testing?

Yes. I can arrange comprehensive thyroid blood testing for clients across Australia and New Zealand, including full thyroid panels that often go beyond standard testing. We can also offer testing for important nutrients essential for thyroid function. All testing is arranged through accredited pathology laboratories, and results are reviewed with you in detail during your consultation.

Can I work with you if I take thyroid medication?

Absolutely. Many of my clients are already taking thyroid medication such as levothyroxine and still experience symptoms their prescription alone does not fully resolve. I focus on the areas beyond your prescription, such as nutritional status, gut health, stress, sleep, immune function, and environmental factors.

How much does a Thyroid Naturopath Consultation cost?

Initial Consultations are $159 and Follow-up appointments range from $159-$199 depending on appointment length required. I offer a free discovery call so you can share what is going on, understand what working together looks like, and ask any questions before committing. If you require pathology and functional testing - fees are additional and will be discussed based on your individual needs.

Can you collaborate with my Endocrinologist?

Yes and in most cases, I find this to be the ideal approach. With your consent, I am happy to communicate with your endocrinologist or GP to ensure the support I provide complements your medical care. My role is to support the broader factors influencing your thyroid health like nutrition, gut function, stress, sleep, and environmental load. Over 22 years of clinical practice, I have found this integrative model delivers helpful outcomes for clients.

My thyroid results are in the normal range, is there any more I can do to help my symptoms?

Yes. Being told your results are "normal" when you are clearly not feeling great is one of the most common frustrations I hear. Standard testing often looks at TSH alone, which may important detail. I use a broad range of thyroid markers, functional reference ranges, and assess nutrient co-factors, gut health, adrenal function, thyroid antibodies, and environmental exposures as there if often more to explore when it comes to thyroid health.

Can you offer functional testing for thyroid health?

Yes. For clients across Australia and New Zealand, I offer functional and pathology testing beyond standard thyroid blood panels. This can include heavy metal testing, environmental pollutant panels, gut and microbiome testing, adrenal and stress hormone assessment, and full nutrient panels. Testing is recommended based on your individual presentation, and results are reviewed with you in consultation.
